Rachel Brooks

I worked in the fashion industry for over 12 years before focusing solely on my artistic practice therefore fabric, prints, and textiles will forever be etched in my DNA. I’m a minimalist by heart but a maximalist by nature and my art greatly reflects my journey to balance these contrasting identities. I’m inspired by our environment, both natural and constructed and I’ve always been intoxicated with the human form. Much of my work has focused on women shown through the feminine gaze, creating a lens into how we see ourselves and each other. I strive to create enough ambiguity in my figures to allow a wider audience to find themselves within each canvas creating a sense of solidarity. I believe that the consumption and creation of art can heal us and should be an integrated part of our wellness practices.
